NHS Member Requirements

NHS Member requirements

To exemplify the characteristics of NHS; Character, Service, Leadership, and scholarship, the following are requirements determined by the membership body, faculty council and National Chapter of the National Honor Society.

1. Meeting attendance is mandatory, not optional.  Any students that has 3 unexcused absences from meetings will receive a warning.

There is a text app that you can sign up for to get reminders on your phone about our meetings.  There are copies of meeting calendars in my room that you can pick up.

2. Fundraiser and Service Project participation is mandatory.  The membership body allows for a donation to be made in lieu of selling Gardner's Candy.  As the adviser, I create an option for students that are unable to attend a service project.  All students must complete 3 hours of an individual service project and have the form signed by the adult responsible for the project.  All individual service projects should be pre approved by the advisor.

In addition to the above requirements students have to continue to meet the NHS guidelines that have been established by the national chapter and the local faculty council.

Service Project

While maintaining the serenity garden will continue to be part of NHS, we are moving onto a new service project for this year.

We are collecting items to be sent to a unit of the Army that is deployed overseas.  We have posted flyers throughout the school.  Today we will be placing collection boxes in the Elementary and High School Offices.  As students bring in items if you could have them take the items to the high school and elementary office and place it in the collection box it would be very helpful.  NHS students will pick up the items as needed from each office.

We are looking for some elementary and high school classes to write letters to the soldiers and sketch images that would be encouraging to the soldiers.  We are planning to send these care kits so they receive them by Christmas.  If you are interested in having your class write letters or pictures, please let me know within the next couple of weeks.  We would need to have the letters and any artwork by November 21.

Attention all local business

Any Business that wants to collect items for this project may email Mrs. Pennington at with any questions.  If you let me know when you have items that need picked up I can send the students out to your business to collect the items.

Thank you for supporting our troops.
