Bienvenidos! Welcome to Spanish! This website is designed to provide helpful information about the Spanish classes that are offered here at Curwensville Area School District. Classes include Spanish I -IV and Intro to Spanish Grade 8.

You may use any of the available links to find information concerning the different Spanish classes, Introduction to Spanish through Spanish IV.

Please note that the use of the Internet dictionary for a word by word translation is permitted. However, the use of the translator programs are not permitted. If detected in your projects or papers you will receive a 0%. This is treated as cheating/plagarism.

 "El Cid Campeador"/ "El Canto del Mio Cid"

ESPANOL IV 

Fijate! Su ultimo ano en espanol!!!!  Imagine!  Your last year of Spanish!!!

Spanish IV will be working on the following concepts this year:

Review of vocabulary learned in Spanish I, II, and III.

Review of grammar learned in Spanish I, II, and III.

Maintaining a journal.

Learning more difficult vocabulary and concepts to improve speaking and writing in the target language.

Working with Textbooks Paso a Paso II and III.

Perfecting the varied verb conjugations

Reading portions of "El Canto del Mio Cid" Spanish literature. 

Discovering Hispanic culture through literature, geography, and movies and meeting speakers fluent in the target language when available.

Working with the Internet, video, audio, conversation forums, skits and presentations.

Spanish IV will be working with Curwensville or Penn Grampian elementary in presenting their own lesson plans, pinatas, and books.

REQUIRED MATERIAL

Assigned textbook, worksheets, notebook, writing utensil, and journal

GRADE SYSTEM

Your grade is based on a straight point system.  You will divide the total points you have received from the total points possible for this course.  Your grade is based on a mixture of assignments, homework, skits, projects, quizzes and tests.

ESPANOL III
Felicidades para obtener a este nivel en espanol!  Han trabajado mucho para realizarlo!  Congratulations you have reached your third year in Spanish.  This year, if all goes as planned, you will be able to teach Spanish to the Curwensville or Penn Grampian elementary students in the spring.

SPANISH III will be working with the following concepts this year:

Review of Vocabulary learned in Spanish I and II

Review of Verb conjugations learned in Spanish I and II

Maintaining a journal

Learning more difficult vocabulary and concepts to improve speaking and writing ability in the target language.

Working with Textbook Paso A Paso II

Learning new verb tenses ( compound tenses, formal command tense, conditional tense, subjunctive tense)

Discovering Hispanic culture through literature, geography and customs, reading, video, the Internet and hopefully, other speakers fluent in the target language.

Reading excerpts from Spain's most famous author, Miguel Cervantes, Don Quijote de La Mancha. 

Spanish III will be working with Curwensville or Penn Grampian Elementary in presenting their own lesson plans, pinatas and books.

Research project to be determined at a later date for their final project along with presenting their work to the class.

Required Materials

Text-Paso A Paso II

You are required to bring your textbook and workbooks along with a journal, notebook and writing utensil to class with you every day and with any current materials we are using in class.  You will be writing in a journal from time to time.  

Grading System 

Grades are based on a straight point system.  Your grade will be calculated by dividing the total points you received by the total points possible in this course.  Your graded assignments will be based on a mixture of homework assignments, skits, quizzes, tests, conversation, teaching project at Penn Grampian project, and other related projects.

Spanish I Course Syllabus

Spanish I will be covering the following concepts:

Spanish alphabet and pronunciation

Basic vocabulary to follow simple instructions in Spanish, respond to Spanish greetings, express likes and dislikes, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, basic foods, items found in the home and neighborhood, family and friends, health and body, school and classes.

Basic conjugation of the present tense of regular and irregular verbs and the preterit tense.  The use of the verbs ser and estar used in description of self and others.

Participation in role-plays, skits, and communicative activities in Spanish.

Research using the Internet as well as duolingo.com.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Textbook- Asi Se Dice I, workbook, notebook including pocket folders and a writing utensil. Students are required to bring the textbook, workbooks, notebook and writing utensil to class with you every day along with any current materials we are using in class.

GRADING SYSTEM  

Grades are based on a straight point system.  Your grade will be calculated by dividing the total points the student receives  by the total points possiblein this course. The graded assignments are based on a mixture of homework assignments, quizzes, tests, skits, projects, class participation and behavior.

8th Grade- INTRODUCTION TO SPANISH

A 36 Day Course

 

This is a 36 day rotation class designed to introduce you to basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar, culture, and customs of Spanish speaking countries.  During this class, we will cover the following topics:

Spanish grammar and alphabet                  Basic Foods

Greetings                                                         Spanish cuisine

Colors                                                               Purchasing and ordering food

Numbers 1-100                                               Parts of the body

Days of the week                                            Months of the year                                 

 

Duolingo.com  language program will be introduced if time permits.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

There is no textbook for this class.  You are required to bring a notebook and writing utensil to class with you every day along with any current materials we are using in class.  There will be notebook checks from time to time and they are worth 5 points each.

Grading System

Grades are based on a straight point system.  Your grade will be calculated by dividig the total points you received by the total points possible in this course.  Your graded assignments will be based on a mixture of homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and skits.
